WHAT TRAFFIC CALMING IS

Introducing design measures to make the street more hospitable for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists — not just cars

WHAT TRAFFIC CALMING ISN'T

It does NOT mean reducing parking — we don't want to do that! There are plenty of ways to calm a street while preserving parking.

It also isn't more random speed bumps — those haven't worked, and there are better ways to calm a street.

WHY TO SIGN THE PETITION

The City has signaled that they will work with us to develop a new, calmer design for North 5th Street if we prove neighbors are interested by collecting signatures. This is our chance, sign now!

WHY DOES N 5th NEED TO BE CALMED?

Let's protect our neighbors!

North 5th Street is currently designed like the barrel of a gun, with cars shooting down it constantly. There is no regard for speed limits or stop signs. The current speed bumps are not enough — neighbors have had to resort to their own homemade solutions to protect pedestrians and cyclists. It is far too common to witness accidents, cars flipping, and neighbors in danger from speeding vehicles. Commercial trucks have also begun to use it constantly because of how easy it is to get down the street quickly.

A simple street redesign could prevent all of this!
